Anthologies

Many moons ago, we thought we’d have some fun and invite our writing friends to join us in creating an anthology of stories taking the trope of Beauty & the Beast and going off at different angles. That turned into When Your Beauty IS the Beast …. and spawned many more anthologies, taking fairytales and classic movie monsters and having just a lot of weird, crazy, sometimes chilling FUN.

Fairytales in the spring, classic movie monsters in the fall ….

UP THE DOWN BEANSTALK (Jack and the Beanstalk)

There has to be MORE to the story … Did you read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and come away with questions? How young was he, to believe the beans were magic? Was he bullied into accepting beans in exchange for the cow? Was he really that gullible? Was he desperate? Or was magic real in his world? Why did he think it was smart to climb that beanstalk? How far did he climb? Why didn’t he run when he saw the giants? What was the giants’ side of the story? Were they bullies, or were they the victims of burglars and swindlers? What about the golden harp and the goose? On and on, with every answer generating MORE questions..

We invite you into these pages to explore the MORE our authors found. You’ll be delighted, enchanted, intrigued, and we hope you’ll cheer for our heroes in all their shapes and sizes and motivations. Brilliant inventors and identity theft.  Brutal usurpers and imprisoned princes. Mischievous boys and missing eggs. Curmudgeonly neighbors and rivals. Heroic sheriffs and computer programmers. Liars and thieves and desperate girls risking all for their families.

And MORE.

Once Bitten… (Dracula)

What do you think of when someone says “vampire,” or more specifically, “Dracula”?

Lugosi? Welles?  Langella? Nouri? Brett? Stamp? Landau? Hamilton? Hirsch? Hauer? Carradine? Lee? Niven? Storch? Nielson? Evans? Cage?

Whether to chill, thrill, repel, or laugh, hundreds have picked up the cape and fangs. We all have our favorites.

Ye Olde Dragon Books humbly presents twelve new stories and visions of the legend and lore for your reading pleasure. Dracula as hero, villain, nemesis, ally, love interest, boy next door, grumbling neighbor, victim or schemer … there’s a story in here for every taste.

You might just have a new favorite Count when you’re done reading.

Word of advice: you might want to keep the lights on …

Trouble Comes in Threes (The Three Pigs)

They say “three’s the charm,” but is that true?

When it comes to three pigs, of all different kinds, who can be sure?

Inside these pages lurk evil pigs, silly pigs, brave pigs, musical pigs, magical pigs, lazy pigs, diligent pigs, arrogant pigs, manic pigs, and pigs fleeing a future as bacon.

Oh, and then there are the houses of straw, sticks and bricks, and multiple interpretations thereof.

And don’t forget the wolves. Evil wolves, professorial wolves, vengeful wolves, defender wolves, and wolves just trying to help their friends out of a sticky, piggy mess.

If the story of the three pigs isn’t your favorite fairytale … it might just be by the time you finish reading.

Come inside and see pigs through our authors’ eyes. You’ll never look at pigs and straw and sticks and bricks and bacon the same way again…

The Invisible Files (The Invisible Man)

Now you see them … now you don’t…

Who hasn’t dreamed of being invisible, either to play a trick or to escape or to get revenge? For greed or power or justice? Who hasn’t felt invisible, at one time or another?

What if it became real? What if you dreamed of the power of invisibility, and achieved it at too high a price? What if you became invisible by accident? What would you do with that power?

These eleven stories explore what it means to fade utterly from view, by choice, by accident, by need, through pain or greed.

Which story could be your story … but for the grace of God?

Tales from the Forest takes the Red Riding Hood trope and twists it all around, making villains heroes and victims villains, taking a fantasy setting and putting it in modern day or the future, stretching it to its silly limits — and what really excites us: puts the theme in some familiar story worlds created by returning authors.

Get ready for another great, mind-stretching, fun time!
